Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 161
Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 161
June 10; Matthew 6:31; 6/260(III); ‘Don’t Worry Saying’
Matthew 6:31 "Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'
The Lord Jesus is teaching an incredibly important principle in Matthew 6:25-31. It has to do with the words of your mouth. Remember that in the beginning of humanity, Adam gave the authority the Lord gave him to the devil when Adam sinned and disobeyed God. The Lord Jesus after redeeming us from sin and sickness on the cross, rose from the dead and before Jesus returned to heaven, He stripped the authority away from satan. The devil is still the god of this world, but he does not have authority over Christians. Adam’s sin cursed the earth and his treason yielded authority to our adversary, satan. I said all of this to say that Christians live in a cursed world, but we are not cursed. The authority of the devil on this earth does not include us as believers. The only way satan can use the authority he has over Christians is by deceiving us so that we speak fear and doubt. Then the very authority that was taken away from the devil by Jesus pertaining to Christians, we give back to the devil by what we say. In this passage. Jesus teaches us not to worry about what we will eat or what we will wear. In other words, the Lord is saying He will take care of our needs. In this passage, four times Jesus tells us not to worry. The devil tries to put fearful thoughts into our minds so that eventually we will speak what we fear. When we do that, our very words give authority to the devil to do to us what we fear. Know the Word. Its truths free you.
