Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 126
May 6; I John 1:3; 127/260(II); ‘What John Saw & Heard’
1 John 1:3 that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.
The Apostle John was with the Lord Jesus during His earthly ministry. John was part of the Lord’s ‘inner circle’, Peter, James and John. John could share with others what he literally heard Jesus teach and what he saw Jesus do. John taught these things so that he could enjoy fellowship with everyone about the Lord. Even though we were not with Jesus during His earthly ministry we can see and hear everything about Jesus when we read God’s Word. By our diligence in the Word, we can have fellowship with others about the Lord, because we can get to know Him as intimately as we choose to by our biblical studies. The ministry of the Lord Jesus as taught by the Holy Spirit, who is the Author of the gospels, can be just as real to us as if we were there with Jesus just as John was. God’s Word was given to teach us how Jesus came to redeem us from the sin and sickness Adam’s sin brought on the world. The Lord Jesus’ life was also clearly revealed to us in the gospels. His character of love, kindness and caring are shared in the Word as an example to us of how we, as Christians, should live. It is possible for us to know Jesus as well as John did. The gospels in the Word of God make Jesus’ life ‘come alive’ to us. Because of this, we can now fellowship with God the Father and the Lord Jesus, since we have taken the time to know Them through the Word. I can have as intimate a relationship with the Father and the Lord Jesus as I choose to have, my Word and prayer time determine this. The Lord is so kind to allow me the same relationship with Him as John. He does this by the Word
