April 25;    James 3:6;    115/260(II);    ‘Our Tongue’

James 3:6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell.

Of all of the parts of our body, our tongue is the most difficult to tame.  If this is true of Born Again, Spirit filled Christians and it is, think about those who do not yet know the Lord.  We know that it says in Proverbs, that death and life are in the power of the tongue.  We know from what the Bible teaches, that we are made in the image of the Lord.  The Lord is a spirit and His creative ability is in His mouth.  What the Lord desires, He creates with His mouth.  We too are spirit beings and have creative ability with our mouth.  They say that 70% of all we hear is negative.  The unsaved people, who do not yet know the Lord, hear this negative dialogue and join right in.  Their tongue is used by the devil, who deceives them, to speak sickness, poverty, inability and all kinds of things that greatly hinder their lives.  Jesus Christ defeated the devil when He rose from the dead.  The Lord Jesus gave us back the authority on this earth that Adam gave to satan when he sinned.  The devil has no authority over Christians.  The primary way satan hurts Christians is by getting them to speak negatively.  Our bodies are made in such a way that it fights off sickess and disease that attacks it.  The ‘course of nature’ in our bodies is health.  By declaring we do not feel well and we are sick, we open the door for the devil to put on us the very thing we do not want.  Hell, meaning the devil who will one day be there forever, does all he can to cause us to curse ourselves by speaking what we do not want.  God’s Word, and what it teaches is our protection.  Our tongue speaks the Word.  Know and say only what the Word says.
