Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 112
Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 112
April 22; Hebrews 13:5; 112/260(II); ‘I’ll Never Leave You’
Hebrews 13:5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."
Very often, we think that a verse is saying something that it is not saying. Then as we look at the verse again and begin to meditate on it, we see the truth the Lord is revealing to us. I believe that this is true with this verse. When you read ‘be content…’ you could get the impression that the Lord does not want you to have a whole lot. Let’s look at what this verse is really saying. First of all the Lord is telling us we do not have to be covetous, greedy. It is very clear in the Word that the Lord has told us that He desires greatly that we prosper (3 John 2) and that it is His pleasure to give us the kingdom (Luke 12:32). If these two verses are true and I could give you several more, than it is very clear that the Lord wants you to prosper. ‘Be content…’ means do not be anxious about money. Jesus told us not to worry about natural, material things, but that if we would seek the kingdom of God first, all of our natural needs will be abundantly met. The Lord promises that He will never leave us nor forsake us. His presence in our lives guarantees us that we will always do well. This is where our faith comes in. We have to believe that the Lord Jesus is with us and that as we make Him the first priority of our lives, He will see to it that all of our natural needs are met. By the Word and sincerely talking to the Lord in prayer, without seeing Him, you can get to know Him better than anyone you can see. Obey the Word by faith, concerning your finances and then rest, knowing that your faith pleases the Lord and that as your Lord and Savior He takes the responsibility of meeting your needs very seriously. All is well.
