Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 107

April 17;    Hebrews 7:27;    107/260(II);    ‘Once For All’

Hebrews 7:27 who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the people's, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself.

Virtually everything in the Old Testament are types and shadows of the Lord Jesus Christ and His redemptive work on our behalf.  All of the sacrifices the priests offered were a picture of what the sacrifice of Jesus would be.  Innocent animal blood was shed for the guilty Jews, including the priest, who offered the sacrifice.  Those animal sacrifices were constantly being offered, but the blood of the animal could only cover the sins of the people, not cleanse them of their sins.  The Lord Jesus, as our High Priest, when He rose from the dead, took His own blood and went once into the heavenly Holy of Holies and there presented His blood.  Unlike the sacrificial blood of animals in the Old Testament which could only cover sins, the Lord Jesus’ blood cleansed us from our sins eternally.  People discuss what is the most sacred day of the year?  Is it Christmas or Easter?  I personally do not believe it is either.  I believe the day the Lord Jesus presented His blood in the heavenly Holy of Holies was the most sacred act in all of history, making the day Jesus did it, the most sacred day.  The Bible is a great historical Book.  The Bible introduces us to great men and women of faith.  The Bible teaches a high moral standard and how to achieve this.  This is all true.  The simple truth is that the Bible was really written to introduce us to the Lord Jesus Christ.  Old Testament types of Jesus are everywhere.  There are multitudes of prophecies in the Old Testament, all of them pointing to Jesus.  Even some great men of faith, their lives and ministries reflect Jesus.  Salvation is in no other Name.
