Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 104
Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 104
April 14; Hebrews 4:12; 104/260(II); ‘A Two Edged Sword’
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
This verse helps us to understand the incredible power and importance of the Word of God. Nothing else can do what this verse teaches that the Word of God does. First the Word of God is living. God authored the Bible and knows every detail of our lives. As we read the Word, we are brought face to face with ourselves. The Word corrects, adjusts, encourages, exhorts us so that our lives can reflect the life God’s Word teaches us that we can and should have. The Word of God is powerful. Romans 1:16 tells us that God’s Word is the power of God to save us. The word save means save from our sins, heal, rescue, safe, make whole and prosper. Nothing else can make that claim. Only the Word can divide our soul from our spirit. As we read the Word, it reveals our motives, our desires and areas we need to adjust. God’s Word does this because the Lord loves us and wants us free and honest with ourselves. Joints and marrow means that God’s Word goes real deep into our very being, again exposing what needs to be corrected and areas that we have gained victory in. God’s Word opens our spiritual eyes to see the real us, what we are thinking about and why we are thinking this way. Again, all of this takes place so that we can be all the Lord created us to be. One last thought. ‘Two edged’ actually means two mouthed. God’s Word was given to make us whole, as we read it and do it. One mouth of this sword is God’s. He has already spoken everything the Word is. The second mouth is ours. When we acknowledge the Word, and its importance, power is released to change us for good.
