Pastor Barry's "Chapter & Verse" Day 333
November 29; Colossians 1:12; 179/260(III); ‘Being Thankful’
Colossians 1:12 giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.
How simple and yet how profound this verse is. Perhaps it is not possible for us to ‘wrap our mind’ around the fact that when we became born again, the Lord gave us eternal life. Forever we will be with the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Life in the Bible means united with. We are forever united with the Lord when we become saved. The New Living Translation translates ‘qualified us to be partakers’ to who has enabled us to share the inheritance with God’s holy people. Remember the Bible is the Last Will and Testament of the Lord Jesus. As a Christian every blessing the Word teaches, is our, as believcrs. Unlike a normal will, which divides the inheritance amongst the beneficiaries, the blessings of the Lord never run out and are the same for every Christian. We are called the ‘saints in the light.’ Every born again Christian is a saint. The word simply means set apart for God. Positionally we are set apart, just as the word means. Now it is up to us to function in a set apart manner. Notice we are saints in the light. The world is dark in so many ways. The Lord Jesus tells us He is the light of the world and that we also are the light of the world. Our world, as Christians, reflects the realities of God’s Word. Our conduct, what we do and what we say, reflect Jesus. As functioning saints, we have by choice turned our back on the sinful things, the dark things this world craves. Being thankful helps keep us going the right way.
