Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 155

June 5;   Matthew 7:24;   7/260(III);   ‘The Wise Builder’

Matthew 7:24 "Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:

What a powerful teaching the wise and foolish builders is.  Hearing and reading the Word of God is vital.  If we merely read the Word and do nothing with what we read, we deceive ourselves.  Doing the Word of God is like building your home on a rock.  That means that the foundation of your home is strong and will not fall when the storms of life come.  What we build our lives upon has no credence if it does not work when challenges come.  God’s Word works.  The Lord Jesus Christ, who is the Word, is the rock we can safely build our lives upon and trust Him to see us through the storms.  James 1:25 teaches that if we hear and do the Word of God we will be blessed in what we do.  This parable that the Lord Jesus was teaching on goes on to say that the foolish builder built his house on the sand.  The Bible does not say that the foolish builder did not work just as hard on his house as the wise builder did.  If our foundation is anything but the Lord Jesus, what we sow our time, effort and lives into will not last when the circumstances of life come.  The foolish builder heard the Word just like the wise builder did.  The Word of God is not a suggestion.  It is a command.  Our Lord does not give us the Word in a dictatorial, legalistic way, He commands us to do the Word because He knows that if we do what the Word tells us to do, our lives will be abundantly blessed.  The Lord Jesus, God’s Word, is our rock solid foundation for life.
