Our Authority

This month’s Scripture Depot is more like an outline on our authority given, authority lost and authority regained and given again. Adam was given authority by the Lord to rule the earth. By sin he yielded his authority to satan (which is why we see the misery on the earth). The Lord Jesus took the authority away from satan when He rose from the dead. Then the Lord Jesus gave the authority to rule and reign on this earth back to the Church. This month’s Scripture Depot gives you a quick, scriptural outline concerning the powerful truths of our authority.

March 2018  #15 Our Authority

The Lord created mankind to have dominion, authority on this earth
Genesis 1:26 Then God said,"Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."
v28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them,"Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth."

Adam was to guard the garden.  He had authority to do so
Genesis 2:15 And the Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to tend and guard and keep it.   Amplified Bible

Eve spoke to the devil.  She had authority over him and should have cast him out of the garden.  Note that the first thing recorded in the Bible that the devil did, was challenge the Word.  He does this because the Word of God defeats him when we know it.
Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, "Has God indeed said, 'You shall not eat of every tree of the garden'?" v2 And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; v3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.'" v4 Then the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die.

When Adam disobeyed God and sinned, he gave the authority the Lord gave to him to satan
2 Corinthians 4:3 If the Good News we preach is veiled from anyone, it is a sign that they are perishing. v4 Satan, the god of this evil world, has blinded the minds of those who don't believe, so they are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News that is shining upon them. They don't understand the message we preach about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.   NLT

Since Jesus was not born under the curse (His ‘Father’ being the Holy Spirit).  Jesus ministered with absolute authority, just like Adam could have.  Demons were terrified of Jesus.  (I Corinthians 15:45) Jesus is called the Last Adam
John 14:30 I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me.

The Lord Jesus was not born under the curse (His ‘Father’ was the Holy Spirit).  Jesus took the curse upon Himself when He was crucified
Galatians 3:13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree"),

The Lord Jesus’ Spirit went to hell and paid the price for our sins.  When Jesus arose from hell by the power of the Holy Spirit he defeated satan and his demonic forces.  Jesus took back from satan the authority Adam gave to the devil by his sin
Colossians 2:14 having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. NIV

The Holy Spirit raised Jesus from the dead.  Jesus ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.  Jesus is seated far above (in authority) all of the demonic forces that would oppose us.  Jesus is now the Head of the Church (Christians).
Ephesians 1:17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, v18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, v19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power v20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,  v21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. v22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, v23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

Jesus is the Head of the Church, His body.  He is seated at the right hand of the Father, far above the demonic forces arrayed against us.  These verses tell us that we are seated with Jesus at His Father’s and our Father’s right hand.  Positionally, we, as the Church, are far above the demonic forces who oppose us.
Ephesians 2:4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, v5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), v6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

The Lord Jesus tells us in this verse that all authority is His.  He took the devil’s authority away from him when He rose from the dead.  Now, the Lord Jesus, gives His authority right back to us, just as Adam initially had
Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.  19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

Adam’s sin cursed the earth.  The Lord Jesus’ sacrifice on our behalf, for our sins and sicknesses enabled us to receive back the authority Adam gave to the devil, but the Lord Jesus took back from the devil and gave to us again.  We have authority once again.
Romans 5:17 For if because of one man's trespass (lapse, offense) death reigned through that one, much more surely will those who receive [God's] overflowing grace (unmerited favor) and the free gift of righteousness [putting them into right standing with Himself] reign as kings in life through the one Man Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).   Amplified Bible
