Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 359

December 25, 2017;       Acts 10:25;       99/260(II);       ‘Worship Jesus’

                                          MERRY CHRISTMAS

Acts 10:25 As Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshiped him.

Cornelius was a Roman Centurion.  An officer in the Roman army, responsible for 100 soldiers.  He was a devout man, who had heard of Jesus and sincerely wanted to know more.  Because of Cornelius’ sincerity, the Lord sent an angel to his house and he told Cornelius to send for a man named Peter, who will share the gospel with Cornelius, his family and his friends.  Cornelius sent some of his trusted friends to find Peter and ask him to come.  Peter, was in Joppa with a friend named Simon.  Peter was up on the roof of Simon’s house when he fell into a trance.  He saw, three times, all kinds of animals let down from heaven in a sheet.  The Lord told Peter to kill them and eat them.  As a Jew, there were several kinds of animals Peter did not eat, yet the Lord told Peter not to consider anything he made unclean.  What the Lord was doing, and what Peter finally understood was when Cornelius a Gentile, asked Peter to come into his home to share the gospel, it was alright for a Jew to do so.  How wonderful the Lord is to reveal His truths to us.  There is no room in Christianity for prejudice against anyone.  When Peter arrived at Cornelius’ home, Cornelius fell down at Peter’s feet to worship him.  Peter, wisely knew better than this and stood Cornelius up, telling him he was not to be worshipped since he was only a man.  Not even angels will receive worship.  It is reserved for the Lord Jesus Christ.  Our eternal destiny is in the hands of Jesus.  He is the One who redeemed us and He alone is worthy of our praise and worship.  We represent Him, what an honor, Jesus gets all of the glory, not us.
