Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 78

March 19;   I Corinthians 1:27;   134/260(I);   ‘Confound the Wise’

1 Corinthians 1:27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;

The things of the Lord confound, literally put to shame, the wise and mighty.  The foundation of sin is pride.  Lucifer was a beautiful angel.  So beautiful that he thought he could be god.  He and one third of the angels, he deceived, rebelled against God the Father.  The rebellion was crushed and Lucifer, now called satan was cast down to the earth.  When Adam sinned, his nature, reflecting the nature of God, was replaced by the nature of satan, pride.  The nature of those not Born Again is pride.  Those intellectually wise and worldly mighty, in any number of ways, many times feel they do not need God or anyone else.  Unfortunately many well educated individuals look down on ‘blue collar’ workers.  Pride got satan kicked out of heaven and it will hinder greatly the Lord impacting the hearts of the proud and saving them.  Obviously the proud  are wrong.  The devil does not care what unsaved people know or how powerful they are, as long as their pride keeps them away from the things of God.  ‘Normal’ people have no illusions as to how smart or mighty they are.  The likelihood of their accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior is much greater.  It is not that the wise and mighty cannot be saved, but their prideful ways must first be removed and they honestly accept the fact that they are sinners and need salvation offered by the Lord just as much as anyone else.  Often the love, kindness and peace of ‘ordinary’ Christians, though initially misunderstood, can be used by God to help the proud realize that they need what those they may have at first frowned upon.  Without Jesus, no one has anything.
