Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 301

October 27;   John 18:38;   86/260(II);   ‘No Truth Without Jesus’

John 18:38 Pilate said to Him, "What is truth?" And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, "I find no fault in Him at all.

The time had come for the Lord Jesus to die for the sins and sicknesses of humanity.  He would soon become the curse, to rid us of the curse Adam brought upon this world when he sinned.  Jesus had said that no one could take His life, that He freely gave it, to redeem us.   When they came to arrest Jesus in Gethsemane, when Jesus told them the He was Jesus, everyone who came to arrest Him fell down.  The Lord had been praying with incredible intensity and the anointing upon Him had to be so powerful, that His adversaries had difficulty standing in His presence.  Jesus allowed Himself to be arrested and brought to Annas, the father in law of Caiaphas the High Priest.  Annas turned Jesus over to Caiaphas and he turned Jesus turned Jesus over to Pilate, the governor.  Pilate did not want to kill Jesus and he questioned Jesus, finally asking Him if He was the King of the Jews.  Jesus tells Pilate He was and that He came to bear witness of the truth (truth is the Word of God, John 17:17).  Jesus then tells Pilate that those who believe the truth, God’s Word, hear Jesus’ voice, because Jesus is the Word of God (John 1:1).  In v38, Pilate honestly asks the question, “What is truth.?”  Without the Word of God, there is no truth.  Ideas change, information changes and people change history for their advantage and purpose.  The Bible clearly teaches that it never changes, we can rely upon the Word today, just as believers have always relied upon the Word.  Jesus is the Son of God, the Savior of the world.  His life and His Word have changed the lives of countless millions.  Only His Word is the truth.
