October 26;   John 17:18;   85/260(II);   ‘Commissioned’

John 17:18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.

 The Lord Jesus is praying an incredible prayer to His Father in this chapter.  Jesus commissions us just as God the Father commissioned Him, when He came into this world.  There cannot be a greater honor, nor the calling to a more exciting and fulfilling life. The Lord Jesus declared in John 6:38 that He only did what His Father told Him to do.  By prayer and the leading of the Holy Spirit, the Lord did exactly what His Father told Him to do.  If Jesus only did what the Father told Him to do and He sends us into the world the same way, we can, by prayer and the leading of the Holy Spirit do exactly what the Lord wants us to do as well.   The Lord Jesus also said that He only said what the Father told Him to say (John 12:49-50).  We must realize that people need to know what the Bible says.  The Bible is the Lord speaking to us. We can discipline ourselves as we talk to others, to look for things that they say to open the door for us to share scripture with them.  There is great power in the Word to bless and help others.  Ask the Lord to open the door to share the Word and to give you the right scriptures to tell them. He will.  Finally, the Bible teaches that Jesus taught, preached and healed everywhere He went.  Since He came to do the Father’s will, that is what the Father told Him to do.  The Holy Spirit empowered Jesus and He faithfully did what His Father wanted Him to do.  As Christians, we need to be baptized in the Holy Spirit, with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.  That is how the same empowerment Jesus had, enables us to fulfill the same commission given us by Jesus.
