Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 299

October 25;   John 16:23;   84/260(II);   ‘The Power of Attorney’

John 16:23 "And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.

‘In that day’ means today.  The Lord Jesus is teaching us the New Testament way to pray.  We are to pray to God the Father in the Name of His Son, Jesus.  The Lord Jesus willing came to earth to redeem us from the curse that Adam brought upon us, by his sin.  Jesus was mocked, treated with incredible cruelty and crucified.  God the Father watched His Son go through this and it ‘pleased Him.’  What Jesus suffered did not please the Father, but the fact that Jesus suffered for us, opening the door for all of us to go heaven, pleased Him.  There is no need for anyone to be eternally separated from the Father and Jesus, because our Lord paid the price to redeem us from sin and sickness.  Now prayer is based on a legal position we have.  We address our prayers to God the Father and we ask everything in the Name of Jesus Christ.  All of our prayers are to honor Jesus.  Jesus said that our prayers would be answered if we pray them to the Father, in His Name.  In a very real sense, when we pray to the Father, in Jesus’ Name, it is as if Jesus Himself were praying.  We have been given the privilege to use that Name.  Additionally, we can use the Name of Jesus against sickness and anything else that would come against us.  At the beautiful gate of the Temple, Peter and John used the Name of Jesus to heal a man who had been crippled for 40 years.  The Name of Jesus is the most powerful Name in the universe and we have been given that Name to use in prayer and in defense against anything that may come against us or others.  We are to continue Jesus’ ministry and His Name is one way we do this.
