Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 297

October 23;   John 14:12;   82/260(II);   ‘Greater Works’

John 14:12 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father

What an astounding verse.  Yet when you understand what the Lord Jesus is saying, the verse makes perfect sense.  The greater works collectively are done by those who believe in Jesus, those who are Born Again, the Church.  Jesus teaches in this verse that every believer can do the same works that the Lord did when He was here on the earth.  Jesus is telling us in this verse that a Christian, can and in a very real sense, must minister in the same way as Jesus.  He preached, taught, healed and did miracles signs and wonders.  How can we, mere human beings flow in the supernatural as Jesus did?  The answer is that the Lord Jesus ministered on the earth as a Man, anointed or empowered by the Holy Spirit.  Jesus healed no one and performed no miracles until the Holy Spirit came upon Him when Jesus was water baptized in the Jordan River by John the Baptist.  That is when Jesus’ ministry began.  The key for us to be anointed by the Holy Spirit, just as Jesus was, is in the end of this verse, ‘because I go to My Father.’  The Lord tells us in John 16:7-9 that it is vital that He goes back to heaven, because when He does, He will send the Holy Spirit back to the earth to empower every believer, just as Jesus was empowered.  Since the Holy Spirit is God, He can be upon, empowering every Christian at the same time.  That is how the Church will do greater works than Jesus did.  Greater works in quantity.  Christians are in every country, all over the world.  Once they are baptized in the Holy Spirit, with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues, they have the same anointing Jesus had.  Our turn to minister.
