Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 284

October 10;   John 2:11;   70/260(II);   ‘Manifesting His Glory’

John 2:11 This, the first of his miraculous signs, Jesus performed at Cana in Galilee. He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him.    NIV

The Lord Jesus was at the wedding of Cana and at His mother’s prompting, Jesus turned the water into wine.  The miracles of Jesus, in the gospel of John were selected to clearly show His deity, that Jesus is indeed the Son of God.  The common people, unlike the jealous religious leaders, loved to listen to the Lord’s teachings.  The miracles that He did brought the multitudes and verified that He was who He said He was, the Christ, the anointed One.  Every year there are numbers of ‘church growth’ seminars.  They are excellent and many things are taught that can help a church grow.  To me, the greatest way to cause a church or ministry to grow is have the miracle power of the Holy Spirit, the power Jesus ministered by, flowing in the church.  As the disciples of Jesus traveled with Him and saw the healings and miracles He did, it confirmed in their hearts that Jesus was the Messiah.  As the disciples worked with Jesus and were close to Him, trying to keep the multitudes in some semblance of order, as they desired to be healed, they had to have sensed the incredible power of the Holy Spirit upon Him and flowing out of Him. It is hard to reject the biblical truths about the Lord Jesus Christ, when you are witnessing instant healings and miracles.  As Christians, baptized in the Holy Spirit, we have the incredible honor and indeed the commissioning of Jesus to continue His ministry, which includes miracles.  All of the hype on TV or the movies about fictional characters with powers and scenes involving cities blowing up are nothing to the genuine power offered to us by the Lord.  We are blessed.
