Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 275

October 2;   Luke 19:41;   63/260(II);   ‘Divine Love’

Luke 19:41 Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it,

The Lord Jesus was about to make His triumphal entry into Jerusalem.  The multitudes who had heard Jesus and seen the miracles He did, gathered to welcome Him.  Jesus rode a colt and the multitude spread their clothes on the road for the colt carrying Jesus to walk over.  There was another group present when Jesus was coming into Jerusalem, the Pharisees and religious leaders.  Their hatred of Jesus, because of incredible jealousy, knew no bounds.  They were furious with the reception the multitude was giving our Lord.  Those religious leaders followed Jesus, like ravenous wolves, criticizing Him for anything that He did.  Soon they would, spit on Him, hit Him, mock Him, scourge Him and crucify Him.  Jesus knew this.  That is what makes this verse sacred beyond words.  Jesus wept for the very ones who hated Him so.  He wept because their rejection of Jesus would open the door for Jerusalem to be conquered and destroyed by heathen armies.  Divine love.  Israel was to love the Lord, obey Him and follow Him.  His blessings on them would be brought to the other nations and they too would be blessed when they saw and accepted the God of the Jews.  This never happened, the Jews were more interested in the heathen gods and forsook the one true God.  A relationship with Him was forfeited for lustful pagan practices and Jewish man made religious rules.  Jesus wept for what could have been.  Now we, the Church, who love Jesus, are determined to live for Him and continue His ministry, flowing in that same divine love, accomplishing what Israel could have.
