Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 248

September 4;   Mark 8:23;   36/260(II);   ‘Holy Spit’

Mark 8:23 Jesus took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village. Then, spitting on the man's eyes, he laid his hands on him and asked, "Can you see anything now?"       NLT

The Lord Jesus went to Bethsaida and a group of people brought a blind man to Jesus and begged Jesus to heal the man.  The Lord Jesus led the blind man out of the town and did an amazing thing.  Jesus spit on the man’s eyes and then laid His hands on the man.  Why would our Lord do such a thing?  This is the only time recorded in the Bible, that Jesus spit on a man’s eyes to heal the man.  One thing we clearly know, the Lord Jesus was led by His Heavenly Father and the Holy Spirit.  Spitting on someone’s eyes seems so unsanitary.  A couple of things we surely know about the Lord Jesus.  He would never embarrass or shame someone.  He came to destroy the works of the devil (I John 3:8) and give us abundant life (John 10:10).  One thing is certain, the Lord Jesus was not spitting on the man, He was spitting on the devil and his works. This verse shows me that the Lord wants everyone healed.  The Bible teaches several ways for someone to be healed.  Just knowing that our Lord and Savior loves you and wants you well has to build our faith.  Knowing also that He has a variety of ways to heal you helps you to trust Him that He will get His healing power to you.  The Lord Jesus laid His hands on the man one more time and the man saw clearly.  I do not think the man cared that Jesus spit on his eyes.  All he knew was that he was healed of blindness.  Smith Wigglesworth used to forcefully punch people where the sickness was in their body, if the Holy Spirit led him to.  The person never felt the blow and since the Holy Spirit led Wigglesworth, the person was always healed.  Trust the Lord.
