Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 245

September 1;   Mark 5:36;   33/260(II);   ‘Only Believe’

Mark 5:36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, "Do not be afraid; only believe."

The biblical account of Jairus and the Lord Jesus raising his daughter from the dead is fascinating.  Jairus was a ruler of the synagogue.  The religious leaders hated the Lord Jesus and were jealous of Him.  Why didn’t Jairus feel the same way?  Jairus had a daughter, who was near death.  Jairus knew that the Lord Jesus healed, so he laid aside any animosity he might have had for Jesus.  Jairus, if he had any, threw pride aside and fell at the feet of Jesus, begging Him to come and heal his daughter.  The Bible tells us that a great multitude had gathered because the fame of Jesus had spread quickly.  Probably many in that multitude attended the synagogue Jairus was the ruler of.  His need far exceeded any other factor.  When Jairus asked the Lord Jesus to go with him and lay His hands on Jairus’ daughter, Jesus began to follow him home.  On the way to Jairus’ home, some came from Jairus’ home and told him that the girl had died.  Here is the key point I want to make.  The Bible says that the Lord Jesus heard what the servants of Jairus told him about the death of his daughter.  Before Jairus could say anything, the Lord Jesus quickly said to the the ruler, “Do not be afraid, only believe.”  We are spirit beings, just like the Lord.  Just as the Lord has creative power in His words, so do we.  Before Jairus could say any negative words that would have greatly hindered what the Lord Jesus was about to do, Jesus told him not to say anything, not to be afraid, just believe.  Death and life are in the power of the tongue.  Jairus listened, said nothing, trusting Jesus.  Jesus then raised her from the dead.
