Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 233

August 20;   Matthew 22:40;   22/260(II);   ‘All You Need is Love’

Matthew 22:40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."

The religious leaders were always trying to ‘trip up’ Jesus with the questions they asked Him.  It never worked.  One of them asked Jesus, “What is the great commandment?”  Jesus told him that loving God with all of your heart and loving your neighbor as yourself were the two greatest commandments.  If you think about this, that has to be true.  If I love the Lord, I will always do my best to obey Him.  I will be diligent to get to know Jesus through the Word of God and prayer.  The more I get to know Him by fellowshipping with Him in the Word and prayer, the more I will love Him and the greater my desire will be to serve Him and do what is pleasing in His sight.  If I love my neighbor, I will treat him the way Jesus treats me.  I will do this because I love the Lord and treating others with God’s love, makes my life incredibly rewarding.  Additionally, always doing my best to help them, believing my kindness to them will open the door for me to lead them to Jesus is vitally important to me.  As a Born Again Christian, the Lord Jesus has given me everything that I could ever want or need.  My priorities have changed from all about me, to all about the Lord Jesus and what He desires me to do.  My priorities are completely different.  Being diligent to Bible reading and sincere prayer replaces former interests.  This fellowship with Jesus becomes the best part of the day.  This then helps me to see others through Jesus’ eyes and enables me to purpose to love others and extend to them the love of Jesus, which ultimately is what I was created to do.  All you need is love.
