Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 181

July 3;   Revelation 1:8;   239/260(I);   ‘The Alpha and Omega’

Revelation 1:8 "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End," says the Lord, "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty."

The Lord Jesus in this verse is not bragging.  He is telling us exactly who He is.  Verses like this reinforce who Jesus Christ is.  Alpha in the Greek is the beginning and Omega in the Greek is the end.  The Lord Jesus always was and always will be.  Jesus came into this world when He was born of His natural mother, Mary, but Jesus’ beginning did not start on the day we call Christmas.  That is when He temporarily left His deity in heaven and came to earth as a Man.  In the Old Testament, every time the Lord appeared to someone, it was called a theophany and the member of the Trinity who appeared was always Jesus.  The Lord Jesus goes on to tell us that He is.  That refers to this chapter of Revelation when Jesus appears to the Apostle John.  He then says He was.  That means He eternally was.  The Lord Jesus always was. He then tells us that He is the One who is to come.  One day He will appear in the clouds and call His church home.  Deceased Christians’ bodies will be recreated and united with their spirit in heaven.  Living Christians’ bodies will be recreated as they ascend to heaven.  After seven years, called the Tribulation, Jesus will come to earth for the Battle of Armageddon.  The devil, satan, and his deceived followers will try to make war with Jesus, but the battle will be short.  Jesus is the eternal Victor.  After a one thousand year period of time on earth called the millennium, during which we will rule and reign with Jesus, eternity will begin.  Christians will forever be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, the Alpha and the Omega.
