Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 178

June 30;   2 John 4;   236/260(I);   ‘Walking in the Truth’

2 John 4 It has given me great joy to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as the Father commanded us.       NIV

John was a minister.  As a minister, he cared about the spiritual wellbeing of Christians.  There has been speculation if this little book was written to a woman and her children or to a local church and the congregation.  Regardless, the teaching of what this verse means is the same.  A minister, and often other sincere Christians are blessed when they know that other Christians are diligent to spend quality time reading and doing the Word.  Since the Holy Spirit inspired John to write this, the One who is really given joy when you read and do the Word of God is the Lord. The Bible is called truth (John 17:17), and how vitally important it is for believers to know and stand on truth in a world that is deceived, confused and intentionally taught lying information by the devil.  Not only are the ‘children’ spending time in the Word, but they are walking in the truth as well.  That means that they are not merely reading the Bible.  That is very important, but they are living their life in line with what the Bible teaches.  This is vital.  Notice, walking in the light of the Word, knowing it and doing what it says is what God the Father commanded.  The Father is not out to control your life.  He wants to bless your life abundantly.  God the Father is our Creator.  He made us, loves us, sent Jesus to die for us so that we could spend eternity with Him.  No one could ever know what is best for us like He does.  Reading, studying and doing the Word will bring success and fulfillment in your life like nothing else can. The only part of this verse that is concerning is only some walk in the truth.  Be part of the ‘some’ and be blessed.
