Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 142

May 21;   2 Timothy 2:3;   198/260(I);       ‘A Good Soldier’

2 Timothy 2:3 You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

With blessings come responsibility.  Eternal life and an abundant life while we live on this earth have been freely given to us by our Lord.  Once we become Born Again, the Bible calls us many things.  A new creation, an ambassador for Christ, a minister of reconciliation, the temple of the Holy Spirit and the body of Christ.  This verse calls us a soldier of Jesus Christ.  Whether we want to admit it or not, there is a never ending, on-going battle on earth for the eternal destiny of people.  Doing little or nothing on your part to ‘fight’ for those who do not yet know the Lord Jesus, does not absolve you or I from our accountability to Jesus Christ, our Commanding Officer.  We were not created to be concerned only for ourselves and our families.  Once we know the truth and have given our lives to Jesus, we have the privilege and responsibility to fight the good fight of faith and do everything we can to help everyone we can get saved.  There are hardships, in the sense that not everyone, including you family, friends and fellow workers will instantly desire the Lord Jesus.  You may be ridiculed and lose some friends along the way.  You will also wage successful ‘combat’ for many who have not yet known Jesus.  Your willingness to fight for their salvation is so vital.  Once you are willing to get into the fray and fight for the eternal destiny of the lost, it is the most fulfilling life anyone could ever have.  Pleasing the Lord Jesus, our Commanding Officer will bring great eternal recognition and rewards in heaven.  The Word of God, prayer, worship and ‘hands on’ teach combat God’s way. It’s time to fight.
