Pastor Barry's  "Chapter & Verse"  Day 304

October 31, 2018;      I Corinthians 16:9;       149/260(III);        ‘Opportunity & Challenges’

1 Corinthians 16:9 because a great door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many who oppose me.     NIV

Paul tells us that he will stay in Ephesus and minister there until Pentecost (v8).  Now in this verse Paul tells us that he has a great opportunity to minister to multitudes of people in that city.  That is a dream come true for a minister or any believer who is serious about doing the Lord’s work.  The truth is there are great opportunities to do the Lord’s work everywhere.  Obviously we want to be in the Lord’s will, but if we talk to Him in prayer, telling the Lord we want to do His work, He will lead us and open the door for us to minister.  Notice, that Paul also tells us that along with opportunities, there is opposition.  The devil will not just leave you alone when you are doing the work of the Lord.  He will try to stop you or greatly hinder what you are doing.  Our adversary, satan, cannot stop you from becoming born again.  Once you are born again, if you are not actively sharing your faith with others, the opposition you will encounter is minimal.  You are really no threat to the kingdom of darkness.  We never want to be in that position.  The Bible clearly and in great detail teaches that through our Lord Jesus Christ we have authority over the devil and his demonic forces.  There will be resistance when you purpose to minister to others that is the bad news.  The good news is that our Lord Jesus tells us that we are more than conquerors through Him.  Nothing the devil did could stop Paul.  What an incredible man he was.  If Paul did this so can we.
